Android 15 DP1 released. End of support for Snapdragon powered pixels. The oldest Pixel that supports Android 15 is Pixel 6. Google Pixel Smartphones are evolved in way better and smartest out there. Snapdragon Powered Pixels are better but not best because every chipset has its own limitations and functions varying per device. Custom chipset is the best for squeezing out most capabilities. Mac’s with intel are better but with Custom M series chips made them best machines. Battery life and performance boosted a lot. Same with the Pixels with tensor chipset Pixels became more smarter and powerful.
The Tensor
In 2021 Google launched Pixel 6 and 6 Pro with it’s custom made chip Tensor G1.It was Google’s first custom chipset Smartphone. Tensor G1 wasn’t the fastest chip but it impressed in Camera, Multitasking, battery life. Google finally integrated HDR to video with Tensor G1. Pixel 6 series users faced many issues in initial days of use later google fixed with updates but still it causes heating issues while gaming and other heavy tasks. The heating issues were because of Samsung modem in it.
There are some network issues too.
Another big change by Google with Tensor is Pixel 6a. Google included the same Tensor G1 in Pixel 6a too and it was the best midranger in 2022.
Next Step: The Tensor G2 debuted with Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 pro Google said Tensor G2 was 60% faster than G1 and more power efficient. There are some minor network improvements. Tensor G2 wasn’t really a major leap. Google included the same G2 in Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet.
Tensor G3: In October 2023 Google Launched Pixel 8 and 8 pro with Tensor G3. G3 is biggest leap. This time the modem is better, the chip is powerful and game changing AI features. Pixel 8 Pro AI features made everyone shocked and video boost is my favourite one. Tensor G4 is minor upgrade and G5 will be a Big change.
Why Google choose Tensor
Google made the right call choosing tensor. Among Snapdragon Pixels, Pixel 4XL is my favorite. It has the best display, best haptics.
Since Tensor’s debut Google has been reducing prices. In 2021 Rick Osterloh said-AI breakthroughs directly to Pixel.
Tensor unlocked more ways to improve Pixel. Pixel 8 pro has some best features that other flagships don’t offer. Many of Google’s AI features won’t run on other devices with Tensor, Pixel phones have gained a competitive edge in performance and innovation.
